Prime Minister Hun Sen has written to Prince Norodom Ranariddh congratulating him on his return to the presidency of Funcinpec and promising that the ruling CPP will cooperate closely with the royalist party.
“On behalf of the CPP and myself, I join in absolutely warmly congratulating the Funcinpec party,” Mr. Hun Sen wrote in the letter, which was released Tuesday and is signed by the prime minister in his capacity as “acting CPP president.”
“I hope that under the leadership of Prince Norodom Ranariddh, the Funcinpec party will continue to develop and, moreover, that the relationship and cooperation between Funcinpec and the CPP will continue to strengthen, expand and become better to serve the interests of the people,” Mr. Hun Sen wrote.
On Monday, upon his ascension to the Funcinpec presidency, Prince Ranariddh also pledged to work closely with the prime minister.
“The King Father [Norodom Sihanouk] said to gather the royalist forces to unite with another national force, which is the CPP,” the prince said at the time. “I ask the congress to choose the way that belongs to the King Father.”
