PM Says Cake One for the Books

Prime Minister Hun Sen may have been presiding over a groundbreaking ceremony for a new highway, but his thoughts were on a different sort of breaking Wednesday, as he invited Guinness World Records to Siem Reap City for the unveiling of an enormous—and possibly record-breaking—sticky rice cake.

In a speech, Mr. Hun Sen said the traditional Khmer New Year num ansorm cake, stuffed with beans and pork, would be of unparalleled dimensions when rolled out at next month’s Angkor Sankranta festival, besting any regional rivals.

“Last year, the cake was made with 2.8 tons of sticky rice. This year, they plan…a rice cake weighing 3.2 tons,” he said. “Perhaps, the Guinness World Records should be invited to come to Cambodia to check.”
