About 30 residents from Phnom Penh’s Srah Chak commune protested in front of their Russian Boulevard houses Monday, demanding that City Hall issue them land titles.
Some of the protesters wore CPP T-shirts while others held banners with pictures of Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife Bun Rany.
“We protested this morning and appealed to Samdech Hun Sen for an intervention to push City Hall into issuing land titles for 57 families in Srah Chak commune,” said protester Kaing Huor, 57.
“We are worried about this land. If we do not have land titles, our land could be forcibly grabbed and if we were to sell our land for development it needs to be done officially.”
Though authorities measured the land in 2006, the families never received documentation, she said. City Hall spokesman Long Dimanche said he did not receive any requests from the residents yet but would investigate.
“We did not know what the residents wanted but we will look into this case again,” he said.
