Around 2 tons of rosewood and other luxury-grade timber were confiscated from a home in Tbong Khmum province by provincial police on Saturday, the provincial police chief said Sunday.
Police raided the home in Memot district’s Memot commune on orders from provincial authorities and found 281 pieces of wood weighing a total of 2 tons, but the owner of the wood had already fled, according to provincial police chief Mao Pov.
It was unclear how authorities found out about the cache of wood, Mr. Pov said.
“We confiscated that rosewood and luxury wood and handed it over to the Memot district forestry officers the same day,” he said.
Mr. Pov said that although police had failed to apprehend the owner of the wood, it did not matter because the man’s name was known.
“We know his identity and he cannot escape from our police net. We can arrest him anytime if you find him,” he said.
