Overturned Timber Truck Kills Three in Mondolkiri

Three men died after the tractor and trailer they were using to transport a haul of first-grade timber overturned on a steep road in Mondolkiri province’s Keo Seima district on Wednesday night, police said Thursday.

“The three were killed after the five large sokrom logs crushed them when their truck overturned on the wet dirt road,” said provincial police chief Toch Yon.

Brigadier General Yon identified the men as Chhen To, 23; Phet Thea, 48; and Rom Chan, 38, all residents of Kratie province’s Snuol district. He said Chhen To had been driving the tractor at the time of the accident.

Sre Chhuok commune police chief Koy Chamroeun said the accident took place in a remote forested area about 60 km from the commune police station and that officers were not able to reach the scene until Thursday morning.

“All three men were killed on the spot,” he said, adding that investigators were still attempting to identify the owner of the logs and the company that had hired the men to transport them.
