One Dies, Four Injured After Truck Collides With Bus

One man was killed and four people seriously injured Thursday morning when a truck crashed into a bus carrying 24 Vietnamese tourists in Kratie province’s Snuol district, according to police.

Deputy district police chief Ke Vino said that Vietnamese national Vien Yangya, 32, the bus driver’s assistant, died instantly in the crash, while the bus driver broke his left leg and 11 passengers were injured.

Mr. Vino said the collision happened at about 8:30 a.m. in Pi Thnou commune when the unidentified truck driver, transporting cassava to Vietnam, attempted to overtake a vehicle and collided with the Vietnamese tourist bus, which was coming from the opposite direction and heading to Ratanakkiri province.

“The truck was overtaking [another vehicle] when it hit the bus, and the truck driver fled the scene,” Mr. Vino explained.

“Four of 11 tourists were seriously injured on their heads and legs, and were sent immediately to a hospital in Loc Nhin, Vietnam,” he said.

The damaged vehicles are being held at the district police office while investigations continue.
