One Arrested, Three On Run After Prison Escape

Police arrested one escaped prisoner and are seeking three others after the group ran away from guards outside the Koh Kong provincial prison on Thursday, according to officials. Tes Salath, deputy provincial prison director, said Friday that the four—all yet to face trial over theft charges—fled from guards who had brought them outside the prison to clear grass.

“Four prisoners escaped when we ordered them to do some work on the prison compound yesterday but now we arrested one of the four prisoners,” he said, identifying the re-arrested man as 25-year-old Poeun Da.

“Now we are looking to arrest three more prisoners,” he said, adding that the escapees were aged between 16 and 25. “We were careless, but we hope that we will arrest them again.”

Koh Kong penal police chief Sok Nhor said that dozens of police officers have been deployed in the area around the prison to track down the escapees.

“The provincial police chief sent about 30 to 40 police officers help to find to arrest those prisoners,” he said.
