Several provincial officials, including the governor of Takeo province, were reshuffled Tuesday at a ceremony presided over by Cabinet Minister Sok An and Interior Minister Sar Kheng.
In Takeo, Srey Ben, who had served as provincial governor for nearly a decade, was replaced by his deputy, Lay Vannak. Kieng Sovanthy, the Doun Keo city governor, became the new deputy provincial governor.
Mr. Ben will now take up a job as a government adviser, the statement said.
Mr. Vannak made headlines in 2012 after police said he shot a karaoke parlor owner in the foot during a night of drinking and singing with friends.
Mr. Vannak claimed that an unnamed friend fired the shot. No arrests were made in the case.
On Tuesday, he said in a speech marking his inauguration as governor that he would devote himself to serving the people of Takeo province.
He said: “We are not the boss of the people, but we are public figures and work as servants of the people.”
