Nine Vietnamese Women Arrested in Battambang

Police on Monday arrested nine Vietnamese women working at a massage parlor in Battambang province after they were found to be living in Cambodia illegally, authorities said Tuesday.

“Provincial immigration police arrested nine women living illegally as they worked in a massage parlor in Boeng Raing commune, Kamrieng district,” said Roeun Sarun, provincial immigration police chief.

Mr. Sarun said the arrests were part of a nationwide census of foreigners that started in August and has resulted in the deportation of about 1,300 people, more than 1,100 of whom were Vietnamese.

Uk Heisela, chief of investigations at the Interior Ministry’s immigration department, said the women arrived at his department Tuesday morning and would soon be deported, along with six other Vietnamese nationals found to be living in Cambodia illegally.

Mr. Heisela said that since January 23, about 101 Vietnamese nationals have been found to be living in Cambodia illegally, and to date 86 of them have been deported.
