Nigerians Nabbed After Two Die in High Speed Crash

Two Nigerians were arrested on Tuesday night after the SUV they were traveling in smashed into a motorcycle in Preah Sihanouk province, killing two, police said.

Seng Chamroeun, the deputy police chief of Prey Nop district, said Miech Sarin, 53, and an unidentified passenger died instantly after the SUV hit the rear of their motorbike at high speed around 11:30 p.m. while driving through Choeung Kor commune en route to the coast from Phnom Penh.

“The Nigerian was driving his Toyota RAV4 SUV from Phnom Penh to Preah Sihanouk province when he hit the [Honda] Wave S motorbike, which was driving in the same direction,” Mr. Chamroeun said.

The SUV then careened into a ditch about 300 meters from the scene of the crash, where the two men were detained and taken for questioning at the provincial police station, he said.

Both Mr. Chamroeun and Chet Sopheak, deputy provincial traffic police chief, said they could not remember the names of the two Nigerians.

The driver of the SUV will be sent to the provincial court for questioning today, while his passenger was released on Wednesday, Mr. Sopheak said.
