The National Assembly celebrated its anniversary Monday, six years after its creation under Untac in 1993.
In a brief speech, National Assembly First Vice President Heng Samrin highlighted the role of King Norodom Sihanouk in bringing peace and national reconciliation to Cambodia.
“With the King’s wisdom to broker peace and reconciliation, our parliament has been successfully functioning to get to its sixth anniversary today, and the Constitution, peace, national reconciliation and society as a whole have all been maintained,’’ he said.
At a Buddhist ceremony outside the National Assembly, Chief Municipal Monk Nuon Ngeth doused a crowd of more than 50 parliamentarians with water, and offered Buddhist prayer.
The parliamentarians made offerings of instant noodles, money and food.
