Mu Sochua Returns to Freedom Park

Opposition lawmaker-elect Mu Sochua returned to Freedom Park on Wednesday with a fellow lawmaker and more than 10 CNRP youth, continuing her protest against the closure of the public park, which was home to mass opposition demonstrations last year.

Ms. Sochua, the CNRP’s public affairs director, called for the prosecution of Sok Penvuth, the deputy governor of Daun Penh district, who has repeatedly ordered district security guards to attack protesters since the Interior Ministry announced a ban on public gatherings in January.

After spending about an hour speaking with reporters and tying orange ribbons on the razor wire surrounding the park, which remains occupied by municipal police, the group left without incident.
