The mother of a 17-year-old girl used an ax to fight off a rice farmer as he was allegedly attempting to rape her teenage daughter in Kompong Speu province, police said on Monday.
The woman attacked Seng Horn, 56, as he grabbed her daughter at her home in Odong district on Sunday night, said Soun Nop, deputy police chief of the commune where the crime occurred.
“The victim was threshing rice at her house.
He grabbed her wrist and tried to push her down.
The mother hacked at him,” Mr. Nop said.
Soon after, the woman alerted police and filed a complaint, he said.
Mr. Horn, a neighbor, was briefly hospitalized before being arrested on Monday morning, Mr. Nop said.
The suspect was being detained at the provincial police headquarters and would be sent to the provincial court when police completed their investigation, said Keo Saroeun, deputy chief of the provincial police’s serious crimes bureau.
