One of three missing immigration policemen, believed shot at sea by the Thai Navy near the Thai-Cambodia border, has been found dead, police said Sunday.
Immigration policeman Vong Samon was shot dead Tuesday while patrolling in Cambodian waters in the Gulf of Thailand, according to Brok Sarieun, immigration police chief for the Ministry of Interior.
The body, along with a broken speedboat, was handed over to Koh Kong authorities on Wednesday, Koh Kong Province Governor Rong Plamkesan said.
An immigration police investigative team is continuing its search for the bodies of Kim Thong and Pheap Sovann in cooperation with the Thai Navy.
Thai Navy sources told Rong Plamkesan that the Cambodians opened fire first but Cambodian officials said they don’t believe their police could shoot at the Thais from the small patrol boat.
