Footage of a boxing match shows a Thai competitor did not hide a rock in his glove, contrary to a claim shared on Facebook in Cambodia. The posts surfaced as tensions soared between Thai and Cambodian sporting officials overthe identity of the martial art. However, the match organiser confirmed that the referee told Petchmongkol Tor-Niyomsuk to remove padding from his glove — not a rock — during the match against his Cambodian opponent.
“Thai boxer put a rock inside his hand wrap. Technical team found it. Breaking news: you got caught,” reads a Khmer-language Facebook post shared on April 9.
The post, shared on a Facebook page with more than 120,000 followers, shows a photo of Thai boxer Petchmongkol Tor-Niyomsuk with a referee and a close-up of the referee holding a round object.
