Military Police Arrest 20 for Crystal Meth

Military police arrested 20 people at a guesthouse in Phnom Penh’s Pur Senchey district late Sunday night for allegedly using and dealing crystal methamphetamine, officials said Monday.

Pann Sopheap, chief of the municipal military police’s anti-drug bureau, who led the raid on the Tharith Angkor guesthouse in Kakab commune at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, said his officers arrested 20 people in three rooms, where they also confiscated 18 small plastic bags of crystal methamphetamine, a scale, pipes and other drug paraphernalia.

“We suspect this guesthouse allowed drug users to rent rooms for using and selling drugs for the past month,” Mr. Sopheap said, adding that the suspects were being questioned at the municipal military police headquarters to distinguish the users from the dealers.

District military police chief Choem Rithy said the suspects ranged in age from 18 to 34, and included two women.
