If there was any doubt about the present warmth in the often tense relations between the Cambodian and Thai militaries, a recent meeting between the two army bosses made a point of putting it to rest.
Defense Minister Tea Banh didn’t just smile for cameras while holding hands with Thai junta chief General Prayuth Chanocha—the two sides also exchanged gifts.
General Banh revealed he had received a framed photo of a Thai military base. The Cambodian team presented their counterparts with framed images of Bayon Temple.
Military Police Commander Sao Sokha received a gift, but wouldn’t say what it was. “It would not be right,” General Sokha said. “It is normal…like when two people are in love and give each other flowers.”
