Perpetrators had promised to marry their victims
In separate cases, Kompong Thom Provincial Court yesterday charged two men, both 25 years old, with the rape of teenage girls in Baray district, one of whom was related to hher attacker, officials said.
Provincial prosecutor Pen Sarath said he charged Lang Dina and El Sina for the rapes of a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old girl.
“I have charged [Mr] Dina with allegedly raping the underaged girl, and El Sina with allegedly raping the 17-year-old girl after I ordered police to make the arrests on Aug 22,” Mr Sarath said, adding that both of the victims’ complaints were lodged earlier that day.
Srey Chansina, Baray district deputy police chief, said that on Aug 14, Mr Dina raped his victim in her home in Balaing commune while her parents were out, threatening to kill her if she told anyone of the incident.
On Aug 18, Mr Sina is alleged to have raped a 17-year-old niece at his brother’s house in Boeng commune, Mr Chansina said.
“After each of the two rapes, neither victim complained to the police,” he said, adding that both suspects tried to stop their victims from lodging police complaints by promising to marry them.
“[Both the victims] came in on the same day after they figured out the suspects did not intend to keep their promise,” he said.
Mr Chansina said both suspects would be transferred to the provincial penal police department, where they will await trial.
