Man’s Arm Hacked Off by Gang Outside Nightclub

Police in Banteay Meanchey province are seeking to arrest a group of men who set upon two students as they emerged from a nightclub in Serei Saophoan City in the early hours of Friday morning, hacking one of the victims’ arms off.

Eth Neat, the city police chief, said that students Keng Laysim, 18, and Chea Venglong, 21, were leaving the Golden Town nightclub at around 2 a.m. on Friday when their motorbike was overtaken by a group of men armed with samurai-style swords.

Mr. Neat said it was still unclear how many attackers there were.

“The suspects used samurai swords to hack the victims,” he said.

“The right arm of Laysim was cut off, and Mr. Venglong was seriously injured on his head from one stroke of the samurai [sword].”

The attackers fled the scene after the attack and both victims were taken to the city referral hospital, where they are still too badly injured to answer questions from police.

“Both of the victims might have had a previous conflict with the other side and they just came to take revenge, or they might have had a problem while they were drinking in the club,” Mr. Neat said. “

We will know more clearly whenever the victims are able to speak with us.”
