Man, Wife Hospitalized After Fight Involving Acid

A man and his wife were hospitalized in Svay Rieng province on Thursday after suffering acid burns when a domestic dispute escalated the night before, a police official said.

“First, the husband was beating his wife after heavily drinking,” said Keo Sotha, chief of the provincial police’s minor crimes bureau.

“Then, the wife poured second-grade acid over her husband while they scuffled, which caused both of them to get burned on their legs and hands.” Mr. Sotha said Bun Sambor, 30, and his wife Hem Sam An, 28, were rice farmers in Romeas Hek district’s Mukda commune, and were not known to fight.

He said the couple was taken to the district referral hospital on Thursday morning after Ms. Sam An managed to leave the house and alert the village chief, who informed police, adding that authorities would investigate the case further when the husband and wife had received the necessary treatment for their wounds.
