A 26-year-old man was injured early Wednesday morning after an unidentified gunman shot him through the floor of his stilt home in Kompong Cham province, police said Thursday.
Toeun Pheary was shot once in his left foot at about 3 a.m. while he was sleeping in the house he shares with five family members in Kompong Siem district, according to district police chief Pak Cheat.
“While the family was still sleeping, one unknown gunman shot a gun through their floor,” Mr. Cheat said, adding that no one else was injured.
The shooter fled the scene after the family began shouting for help, he said.
San Sophea, chief of the provincial police’s serious crimes bureau, said that while no arrests have been made, he suspects the shooting was attempted murder.
“This case could involve revenge…because the gunman intended to kill the family members,” Mr. Sophea said.
He added that police found one shell casing from a K-54 pistol near the scene and that the victim had been sent to the district referral hospital for treatment.
