Man Killed Protecting Family From Robbers

A man was shot to death by an armed robber while trying to protect his wife and children at his home in Kampot province on Sunday night, police said Monday.

Deputy provincial police chief Mao Chanmathurith said a group of three to four robbers used metal cutters to get through a fence surrounding the family’s residence in Toek Chhou district, then entered the house through a back door.

When Neng Nath, 54, a taxi driver, heard the intruders, he barricaded himself in his bedroom with his wife and two children and used his body to block the door, leading one of the men to fire through the door with a Glock pistol at about 8:30 p.m., Mr. Chanmathurith said.

“The victim was shot twice, in his neck and in his chest,” he said, adding that the men fled after firing the shots but took nothing from the home despite ransacking one room. “

This group could consist of old suspects or be a new group of gunmen,” Mr. Chamathurith said. “Now our police are investigating to find out who they are.”
