Man Hacked to Death With Cleaver at Market

Police are searching for two unidentified men who hacked a vagrant to death, nearly beheading him with a meat cleaver outside a market in Phnom Penh’s Russei Keo district on Tuesday evening, an official said on Wednesday.

The suspects attacked Chor Chansok, 41, a homeless man, at about 7:30 p.m. after arguing with him over money in front of Phsar Kramuon market in Svay Pak commune, according to commune chief Hou Samorn, who said the victim was hacked three times in the throat and died at the scene.

“According to the people who live near the scene, they had an argument with each other over 20,000 riel or 30,000 riel [about $5 or $7.50] before he was chopped to death,” Mr. Samorn said, adding that police were attempting to find out more about the disagreement in order to identify and arrest the suspects.

“Nobody knows what was going on before the argument.

When we were informed by the local people, we went down there and saw the victim was dead already,” he said. Commune police chief Him Kimsan declined to comment.
