Police in Pursat province are searching for a homeless man who allegedly murdered his elderly friend in a drunken rage on Sunday night before cutting off the victim’s penis, officials said Monday.
The suspect, Troeng Borey, 28, had been staying with Hak Hean, 74, for the past several months, and was drinking beneath the older man’s stilt house in Bakan district’s Svay Donkeo commune on Sunday evening when he became enraged, according to commune chief Doeum Hiet.
“The suspect is a homeless man and seemed to have a mental illness, too,” he said. The next morning, according to commune police chief Khet Serey, Hak Hean failed to appear outside his house, and a child from a neighboring family was sent to check on him at about 8 a.m.
“The child found Mr. Hean dead in his house with his throat cut,” he said, adding that the man’s torso had been punctured three times by a sharp object and his penis severed completely.
Mr. Serey said witnesses saw Mr. Borey flee the area on his bicycle on Sunday night, and that police were seeking his arrest.
