A 35-year-old man appeared in a Kompong Speu provincial court Wednesday to face murder charges for the death of a man stuffed in a suitcase along a Phnom Sruoch district road.
Authorities sent Mom Sophat to provincial court to face murder charges, and were seeking six warrants for his alleged accomplices, Kompong Speu military police chief Men Siborn said.
Police say Mom Sophat was a passenger in a truck that dumped the dead man’s body, stuffed in a large grey suitcase, along the road.
The seven men bludgeoned the man to death with a stick, and then stuffed his body into his own luggage in a Phnom Penh guest house or hotel, Men Siborn said.
Authorities have since buried the man’s decomposed remains behind Kompong Speu provincial hospital’s grounds, the chief said.
An autopsy determined that the man was not a Cambodian national, but authorities still did not know who the man was, or why the men killed him, Men Siborn said.
The autopsy, which determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma, also concluded the man died last Monday.
