Koh Kong Provincial Court on Wednesday charged Horn Pov, 26, over the rape of a 3-year-old girl he lured into his home on Monday to watch television, a rights worker said.
“The suspect caught the girl in front of his house and raped her in a rambutan plantation about 200 meters behind his house and threatened to kill her if she called for help,” said Neang Boratino, Adhoc provincial coordinator.
“The victim’s grandmother had allowed her granddaughter to watch TV at the suspect’s house as they are neighbors,” he added.
In a separate case, a 44-year-old widow was raped and attacked with a machete in Svay Rieng province on Tuesday night, police said Wednesday.
“The unknown suspect used a machete to attack the victim’s face, cut her fingers, and slit her throat in an attempt to kill before escaping,” said Sam Sam Ol, Romeas Hek district police chief.
Mr. Sam Ol said the victim is being treated at Phnom Penh’s Khmer-Soviet Hospital due to her serious condition.
The suspect remains at large.
