Man Attacks Wife, Mother-In-Law, Then Kills Self

A man in Siem Reap province allegedly attacked his wife and mother-in-law with a machete on Monday before committing suicide by slitting his throat, police said.

Khon Phearum, 32, was drinking at a party early in the morning when his friend warned him to reduce his alcohol consumption or risk losing his wife, said acting Banteay Srei district police chief Muy Nan.

Taking the words to mean his wife was having an affair, Khon Phearum returned home to confront her.

The argument quickly escalated and he struck her three times with a machete and her mother once when she tried to intervene.

Both the wife and mother-in-law were taken to the provincial hospital by neighbors.

“The suspect was very angry at his wife because he suspected that his wife, who had very white skin, was having an affair,” Mr. Nan said.

After attacking the pair, he said, Khon Phearum then sat on the steps of his home and slit his throat, according to witnesses.
