Man Arrested With Stash Of Fake Shower Gel

Phnom Penh municipal economic-crime police arrested a man for possession of more than 300 bottles of counterfeit shower gel at his home in Sen Sok district on Thursday, a local official said.

Police confiscated 344 bottles and a box of sachets containing the fake shower gel after the company that manufactures the product lodged a complaint with police, said Tan Navin, chief of Toek Thla commune.

Mr. Navin said the suspect denied knowingly purchasing counterfeit shower gel. “He said that he bought it from others and didn’t know it was fake,” he said, adding that the suspect was sent to the municipal economic-crime police office for questioning.

Sieng Sok, deputy prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said the authentic shower gel manufactured by the company that filed a complaint with police is trademark-protected.

Both Mr. Navin and Mr. Sok said they could not recall the name of the company.

Municipal economic-crime police chief Pit Panha could not be reached for comment.
