Man Arrested in Murder of Woman and Her Child

Police in Kompong Speu province have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a woman and her daughter, though the dead woman’s husband, a Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) major general and suspect in the case, remains at large.

The bodies of Major General Kim Marintha’s wife, Pav Dany, 30, and their 6-year-old daughter were stuffed into a plastic bag and left in a forested area in Kompong Speu province’s Phnom Sruoch district in March.

Kompong Speu police arrested Chea Sok Samnang, 34, Maj. Gen. Marintha’s son-in-law, in connection with the murders on Saturday in Sihanoukville province.

“The suspect was arrested on Saturday and I am not working on the case anymore,” provincial police chief Sam Sak said. “The case is being worked by the Interior Ministry.”

Phsar Thmei II commune chief Meas Sopheap said Maj. Gen. Marintha, the director of GST Express Bus, is also wanted in connection with the murders and remains at large, along with his son. A spokesman for the Interior Ministry could not be reached for comment.
