A 41-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon for sexually abusing a 5-year-old-girl while she bathed in the Bassac River in Kandal province’s Koh Thom district, police said.
The suspect, Loeng Se, is accused of inappropriately touching and molesting the girl as she bathed Wednedsay morning in a part of the river that was about 20 meters from her home, district police chief Muy Chanpech said.
Mr. Chanpech said an 11-year-old boy who lived in a neighboring house was also bathing in the river at the time and immediately reported the abuse to the girl’s relatives.
Loeng Se was arrested by police as he tried to flee to a neighboring district. Mr. Chanpech said the suspect would be sent today to the provincial court to face charges of committing an indecent act.
The girl has been sent to Phnom Penh for medical care, as she had sustained injuries in the attack, which occured at 9.30 a.m., Mr. Chanpech said.
