A 23-year-old man was arrested on Friday for raping his 5-year-old daughter at their home in Kandal province’s Mok Kampoul district, police said Sunday.
Lek Dara, Prek Dambang commune police chief, said the suspect, a bricklayer, had raped the child on Wednesday afternoon while his wife was working outside the house, seriously injuring the girl.
“When his wife went outside, the father called his small daughter to come into the house and raped her,” Mr. Dara said. He said the man had threatened to hit the girl if she ever told anyone about the rape.
A day after the incident, the girl complained to her mother of genital pain, and eventually told her mother and another family member about the rape. They brought her to the provincial hospital and filed a complaint with commune police on Thursday seeking the suspect’s arrest.
Nov Savuth, district deputy police chief, said the suspect was still being questioned at the district police station Sunday and would be sent to the provincial police station today. He said he was not sure when the suspect would be sent to the court to face charges.
During questioning, the man admitted to having raped his daughter, but told police that he had been drunk at the time and “could not control his feelings,” Mr. Dara said.
