A man was arrested on Tuesday for raping his 10-year-old stepdaughter in Banteay Meanchey province’s Malai district, police said Wednesday.
Him Vet, 35, was nabbed by military police following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother that her daughter had been raped, according to Tang Sokheng, commander of military police unit 999.
The suspect allegedly raped his stepdaughter while his wife was out of the house.
“While the victim’s mother was out of the house, the stepfather trapped her in a room and raped her,” Mr. Sokheng said.
He added that following the arrest, Mr. Vet admitted to the crime during questioning.
In a separate case, a woman was raped and killed by an unknown suspect while she slept in her home in Prey Veng province on Sunday, said Svay Anthor deputy district police chief Soeung Sokhom.
A 56-year-old widow who lived alone in Chea Khlang commune was raped and had her jaw broken with a wooden club, doctors said following an autopsy.
“We are still investigating the case and are searching for the suspect,” Mr. Sokhom said.
