Man Arrested for Alleged Grenade Attack on Battambang House

Police in Battambang province arrested a 43-year-old man on Wednesday for allegedly lobbing a grenade under a house in Kors Kralor district and injuring one woman, police said.

Khao Vinh allegedly threw a grenade under a wooden house in Thipadei commune Wednesday morning and seriously injured a woman sleeping inside with her young son, said district police chief Siek Phea. “The suspect attempted premeditated murder to revenge his son, whom the victim caught stealing a chicken and sent to the police station last month,” Mr Phea said.

Chan Sinath, 42, who was sent to the emergency ward of Battambang provincial hospital with serious injuries from the explosion, lived next door to Mr Vinh and his family, who are distant relatives, he said. Last month, the victim allegedly caught Mr Vinh’s son stealing her chicken and took him to the commune police for re-education, he added.

Mr Vinh felt shamed by the community over the incident and allegedly attempted revenge by throwing the grenade when Ms Sinath’s husband spent the night away from home, Mr Phea said. “The attack was over a grudge.”

Mr Vinh had not confessed to causing the grenade attack since district police arrested him at 5 pm on Wednesday after carrying out an investigation, Mr Phea said. The suspect was transferred yesterday to Battambang provincial police station for his case to be processed and is to be sent to the provincial court today, he said.
