A man was arrested on suspicion of stabbing his sister-in-law to death after a heated argument in Kampot province’s Kompong Trach district on Friday evening, according to local police officials.
Set Phy, 34, attacked mother of three Ing Dieb, 32, after a prolonged verbal argument that became violent, according to Thay Sarik, Russei Srok Khang Lech commune chief.
“The victim and suspect had been arguing since the daytime and at about 9:20 p.m., while the victim was sitting in a hammock in front of her house, the suspect came out of nowhere, drunk, and stabbed the victim with a sharp knife,” said Mr. Sarik yesterday, adding that the victim died while being rushed to the hospital.
Deputy provincial police chief Mao Chan Makthurith said the suspect became enraged as he believed his sister-in-law was mocking him.
“He couldn’t stand the mocking from his sister-in-law because of his bad living conditions so he took the knife and stabbed the victim,” Mr. Makthurith said.
The suspect, who was arrested at the scene, was questioned at the provincial police headquarters yesterday and will be sent to the provincial court today, he added.
