A 20-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for raping and abducting a 13-year-old girl from Battambang after he coerced the girl in a telephone call to visit his home in Poipet town, police said Friday.
Chub Sophat was arrested Thursday for raping the victim four times during the course of Monday and Tuesday in Poipet City’s Nimit commune, said Horm Muth, Poipet city’s military police chief, adding that the suspect had confessed to the crime.
“The suspect’s friend knew the victim previously, and used the suspect’s number to call her, causing the girl to strike up a friendship with Mr Sophat, who convinced her to visit him,” he said.
Mr Muth said that the victim had returned to her Batttambang home on Wednesday when she told her mother about the abduction and rape. Her girl’s mother filed a complaint in Poipet the following day.
The suspect has been detained at the provincial military police station and will be sent to court on Saturday, said Prum Then, Banteay Meanchey provincial director of anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection.
