Man Accused of Child Abuse Appears Over Complaint

A 56-year-old German national who will face trial on Thursday for sexually abusing five boys appeared at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Tuesday for questioning over a complaint he filed against the mother of one of his alleged victims, accusing her of theft and attempted blackmail.

Udo Sabiniewicz was arrested in Chbar Ampov district in June and has since been charged with five counts of sexual abuse against minors.

Speaking to a reporter upon leaving the courthouse on Tuesday, Mr. Sabiniewicz denied the charges and said the mother of one of his alleged victims likely filed the abuse complaint against him as an act of revenge after stealing from him and threatening him.

“She took my iPad and refused to give me it back. She said if I complained, she would do something to harm me,” he said.

“Police came to my house to arrest me without an arrest warrant. It is illegal and it is an abduction,” he added.

San Sony, a lawyer for the mother, said her client was also brought in for questioning, but declined to comment further.
