Major General Arrested On Defamation Charges

A two-star general in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces was arrested Friday on charges of defamation, police and prison officials said Friday.

On Friday, police officers from the Interior Ministry’s penal department arrested Major General Chea Dara, who works at the Ministry of Defense, following a court warrant, said deputy municipal police chief Chuon Narin.

“Major General Chea Dara was arrested by police officers from the penal department. I did not go arrest him, so I cannot tell the media any more about him,” Mr. Narin said.

Asked what Maj. Gen. Dara was charged with and what crime he had allegedly committed, Mr. Narin said he had no further details on the case. Hou Puthvisal, director of PJ Prison, confirmed Maj. Gen. Dara’s arrival at the facility.

“I only know that he was arrested after the Supreme Court issued a warrant, but I do not know when. He was charged with defamation,” he said.
