Lyly and Reska, two Cambodian girls in Australia for life-changing surgery who have become friends

Hugging the Sangke River in north-west Cambodia is the former French colonial outpost of Battambang.

It’s more than 7000 kilometres away from Kilmore in regional Victoria where five-year-old Cambodian girl Lyly Chhoeut awaits life-changing surgery.

Lyly was born with a rare condition called neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), which manifests in the development of benign tumours on the nerves that control hearing and balance.
