A group of 55 drivers who briefly went on strike last month settled their dispute with the Royal Cambodian Limousine Service over unpaid overtime wages on Monday, agreeing to accept between $600 and $700 per driver, according to a representative of the drivers.
Chhay Buntha, the representative, said the deal was reached during the fourth round of negotiations since the strike.
“We agreed with the offer by the company…because in addition to the overtime pay, the company agreed to offer a half month’s salary bonus for Khmer New Year and another half month’s salary bonus for Pchum Ben holidays from next year onward,” he said.
The drivers, who say that for years, the company—a subsidiary of tycoon Kith Meng’s Royal Group—failed to pay them for working four hours of overtime every day, initially demanded about $290,000 in total.
Vannak Roth, human resources manager for the limousine service, confirmed that the dispute had been settled, but referred further questions to Jacob Montross, the company’s managing director, who could not be reached for comment.
