A primary school teacher and teenager were killed by lightning in separate provinces on Monday, officials said.
In Banteay Meanchey province, Kay Koy, 16, was killed after being struck by lightning while bathing in a pond about 100 meters from his home in Malai district at around 3:45 p.m., according to district police chief Sao Bun.
“The boy was bathing in a pond during heavy rain and died instantly after being struck by the lightning,” Mr. Bun said Tuesday.
In a separate case, Meas Sarann, a 42-year-old primary school teacher from Preah Sihanouk province’s Prey Nop district, was killed during a thunderstorm, said Samakki commune chief Prak Sarim.
“She was scared and went for shelter at a neighbor’s house and was holding nothing but was struck and killed,” Mr. Sarim said.
