Lawyer, Not Minister, Requests Enforcement of Rainsy Decision

I came across with dismay the allegation “Foreign Minister Hor Namhong on Friday requested the enforcement of a 2011 court decision sentencing Mr. Rainsy to two years in jail for claims that the minister had been a Khmer Rouge collaborator” in the article “Hun Sen’s Fixer Steps In To Mediate Rainsy’s Return” (November 18, 2015).

For the sake of truth, I wish to make the following clarification. Foreign Minister Hor Namhong has fully entitled his lawyer since 2008 to file and to handle a lawsuit against Mr. Rainsy for having accused him of being head of Boeung Trabek camp.

The request for enforcement of the Appeal Court’s 2013 verdict was made by his lawyer, not by the Foreign Minister. The allegation “Foreign Minister Hor Namhong requested the enforcement of a 2011 court decision” has no basis in fact and is a fabrication.
