Laotian Arrested for Smuggling Meth Across Border

Police in Preah Vihear province on Wednesday arrested a Laotian woman who allegedly crossed the border into Cambodia with nearly 1,000 methamphetamine pills and a kilogram of the drug in its crystal form, all destined for Phnom Penh.

Keo Monivong, 18, was arrested just before 8 a.m. in Chheb district after crossing the border earlier that day with the drugs hidden inside a bag of tea, said Colonel Yen Panharith, K-9 bureau chief of the Interior Ministry’s anti-drug police department.

“We were following her movements for about 20 days, and at 7:45 a.m., we arrested her,” he said. Col. Panharith said Ms. Monivong confessed to having smuggled methamphetamine from Laos to Phnom Penh once before.

The colonel said the suspect had been handed over to provincial anti-drug police for further questioning and would be sent to court Thursday.
