The Kratie Provincial Court on Tuesday charged a farmer with raping his 8-year-old niece multiple times at his home in Sambor district last month, police said Wednesday.
Suon Vuoch, 49, was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping his young niece three times inside his house in Kompong Cham commune in early February, according to Huot Leum Heang, chief of the provincial police’s serious crimes bureau.
“The court officially charged him with rape with aggravated circumstances” on Tuesday, Mr. Leum Heang said. Mr. Leum Heang added that while the suspect denied the charges against him, a medical examination showed that the girl was raped.
District police chief Chhin Sambo said on Tuesday that Mr. Vuoch assaulted his niece on February 5, after asking the girl’s parents to bring her to his house so that she could spend time with her cousin.
More than three weeks later, on Saturday, the girl told her parents what happened and they filed a complaint with commune police, Mr. Sambo said.
“The suspect raped her three times that day,” he said.
“He also threatened to kill her if she told the parents or anyone in the village.”
