KR Monthly Now in English

English-language versions of “Searching for the Truth,” the monthly magazine published by the Documentation Center of Cambodia that chronicles evidence of the Khmer Rouge regime’s genocidal years in power, are now on Phnom Penh newsstands.

The glossy magazine began publishing in Khmer in January 2000 and has published rare photographs of Khmer Rouge leaders, personal accounts of survivors, and essays and articles by experts and historians.

English-language translations of the 12 issues published in 2000 can be purchased at Monument Books outlets. In December, English-language versions of the 12 issues from 2001 will be available, said DC-Cam Director Youk Chhang.

The printing of the English translations was funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, according to SIDA program officer Anders Frankenberg. Money raised from the sales of the English-language magazines will help pay for larger print runs of the Khmer-language version, said Khmer Rouge historian Craig Etcheson, who helped establish DC-Cam in 1995.

Khmer-language copies of “Searching for the Truth” are distributed for free to every commune in Cambodia, Etcheson said.
