Kompong Cham Cashew Farmer Found Killed in Well

The body of a 52-year-old cashew farm owner was found in a well with her throat slit in Kompong Cham province on Sunday, police said.

The house of the victim, Thai Huoy, had been looted, with $1,500 and a motorcycle missing, according to Sramor commune police chief Sek Sam Oeun.

He said police suspected two teenage workers on Thai Huoy’s 20-hectare farm of committing the crime, as nobody else had been living on the land in Choeung Prey district’s Sramor commune.

“We suspect the two young men because they were living with Ms. Thai Huoy and her property was stolen,” he said.

Thai Huoy’s relatives drove by her house on Thursday and noticed that nobody was home, raising their suspicion. They filed a report on Sunday with district police, who found Thai Huoy’s body that day.

“Police found her body swollen in the well not far from her house on the farm,” said Sramor commune chief Sam Lim. Choeung Prey commune police chief Heng Vuthy said police have launched an investigation to apprehend the two suspects.
