Koh Kong Provincial Court charged a 27-year-old man on Sunday for allegedly raping and killing his sister-in-law, according to a court official and police.
Deputy police chief Sin Sen said yesterday that Nam Dul allegedly broke into 23-year-old Nut Huon’s house, located in Smach Meanchey district’s Dang Tong commune around midnight on Friday while her husband—Mr Dul’s brother-—was away on a fishing trip. Mr Dul allegedly raped then stabbed her to death and escaping through a window, Mr Sen added.
“The suspect used a small knife to stab the victim’s throat once,” he said, adding that the suspect was arrested on Saturday.
Provincial court Deputy Prosecutor Srei Makny said that Mr Dul was charged on Sunday.
In an unrelated case, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged a 21-year-old man for having sex with a 14-year-old girl from Takeo province, Deputy Prosecutor Chea Meth said at the courthouse.
“Suos Vireak was charged for having sex with a minor under 15 years old, and I sent this case to the investigating judge for further questioning,” he said.
Keo Thea, chief of the municipal anti-trafficking police department, said the suspect was arrested on Sunday in Daun Penh district for having sex with the 14-year-old at a guesthouse in Prampi Makara district.
“After the victim’s parents found out, they filed a complaint about Mr Vireak,” Mr Thea said by telephone, adding that the young girl also stole nearly four damlung of gold from her parents in Takeo before traveling to Phnom Penh to meet the suspect. The suspect persuaded the girl to sell some of the damlung to buy a motorcycle, Mr Thea said.
Mr Vireak told the court yesterday morning that he and the victim were in a relationship after first meeting in the capital during the Water Festival.
“We went for a walk during Water Festival with each other,” he said.
