King Pays Visit, Donates To Takeo Villagers

King Norodom Sihamoni on Monday offered donations to hundreds of poor families in Takeo province during a visit to Tram Kak district.

The king spent several hours with the 574 families from two villages in Trapaing Thom Khang Tbong commune and handed them the donations personally, said commune chief Sann Hoeun.

“The people were very happy that they could see the king in person,” he said.

“Their tears fell when they saw the king visiting them face-to-face because they never saw the king in person before; they have seen the king only on television.”

According to Mr. Hoeun, each family received 50 kg of rice, a mat, 12 cans of sardines, a carton of dried noodles, a scarf, a mosquito net, a blanket, a sarong, a T-shirt, and 100,000 riel, or about $25.
