Khmer Rouge Tribunal Hearings Postponed Again

Hearings in the second phase of the Khmer Rouge tribunal’s Case 002 have been postponed until January 21 so that defendant Khieu Samphan can continue to receive medical treatment.

The 83-year-old former Khmer Rouge head of state was rushed to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital suffering from dizziness and high blood pressure on Thursday, the first day of evidentiary hearings in this phase of the case.

Anta Guisse, one of his lawyers, said Tuesday that her client would not be discharged from the hospital before Thursday—the day the trial had been due to resume—and that hearings had been postponed until January 21. A spokesman for the tribunal could not be reached.
