Kandal Man Arrested for Murder of Monk in 2007

Police in Kandal province arrested a 30-year-old man on Sunday for allegedly beating a monk to death with a wooden stick in 2007 at a pagoda in Kandal Stung district, according to provincial court president Judge In Vanvibol. 

On Aug 27, 2007, the 78-year-old monk, Yuon Sorn, scolded the suspect, San Bunsoeung for stealing a coconut in the pagoda. Mr Bun­soeung was angry and returned to the pagoda the next night while drunk and allegedly killed Mr Sorn, according to provincial penal police chief Meu Chantha.

An arrest warrant was issued by the Kandal Provincial Court on Dec 17, 2009, but the suspect was not located until Sunday, according to Kandal Stung district police chief Soem Buthbandith.
