Kampot Man Charged With Killing His Wife

A Kampot province man has been jailed on charges he killed his wife after discovering she was gambling without his permission, provincial authorities said Sunday.

Officials Saturday charged Touy Boun Ly, 22, of Chouk district with murder in the March 23 death of his wife, Klem Van Hong, 21, Kampot province judicial police deputy chief Eang Ge Va said.

Authorities allege Touy Boun Ly was distraught over the death of his 1-month-old son. Touy Boun Ly had warned Klem Van Hong to stop playing cards and when he found she was still doing so, he beat her with a stick until she collapsed, unconscious. Touy Boun Ly then allegedly dragged her into a nearby stream and drowned her.

Touy Boun Ly told police he also wanted to kill himself, Eang Ge Va said. Touy Boun Ly fled, but came back to attend his wife’s funeral, where authorities arrested him.
